OSSLT Module 5: The Final Simulation

This is it! You have practiced deconstructing headlines, building "hamburger" essays, and hunting for evidence. Now, it's time to put it all together. Think of this as a dress rehearsal before the opening night!

1. The Mock Exam (2.5 Hours)

  • We are learning to build stamina and manage our time.
  • Set a timer for 2.5 hours. Head to OntarioLiteracy.ca and open the 2019 Practice Test.
  • Try to complete it in one sitting without distractions.
  • Reassuring Tip: If you get stuck on a question, take a deep breath, skip it, and come back later. It is okay to feel a little nervous—that just means you care!

2. Your Final Report Card (1 Hour)

Once you finish the test, it's time to be your own teacher.

  • Create a "Personal Report Card" in Canva.
  • Look at your answers. Give yourself a "Green Light" (Ready), "Yellow Light" (Needs Review), or "Red Light" (Ask for Help) for each of these areas:
    • Reading for Detail
    • The News Report
    • The Opinion Essay
    • Short-Answer Evidence (APE)

3. "Ready for Success" Video (25 minutes)

  • I can identify the strategies that work best for me.
  • Record a 90-second video in Canva.
  • Tell me: What is the number one strategy you will use on test day? (Maybe it's using the APE method, or checking for Canadian spelling, or playing "Devil's Advocate" in your head).
  • How has using AI or video helped you feel more prepared?

4. Submission & Next Steps

Download your completed exam responses (as a PDF), your Canva Report Card, and your video. Submit everything to Google Classroom.

Congratulations! You have officially completed the OSSLT Power Unit. You have worked hard, learned new digital skills, and improved your literacy. You are ready to show Ontario what you can do!
